Como en algún subsector de las energías renovables (véase la fotovoltaica), la producción de biocarburantes en España se ha convertido en un sumidero de inversores habituales en otras actividades especulativas como la promoción inmobiliaria. Es cierto que muchos de los que facturan biodiésel lo hacen como resultado de reciclar aceites usados.
Pero a ver cómo se explica que en España existan 73 plantas operativas o proyectadas para elaboración de 6,7 millones de toneladas anuales de biodiésel y otras 10 para fabricar bioetanol. No hace falta ser un sabueso para ver que la mayoría de ellas están ubicadas en ámbitos portuarios para tener a mano la materia prima que importan. Y si el producto resultante se vende al consumidor al mismo precio que los carburantes fósiles pero exento de impuestos, mientras la importación sea barata..., habrá qué preguntarse si éste es el modelo elegido por España para contribuir a la sustitución de carburantes fósiles por otros que tienen su origen en la fotosíntesis.
